October 4, 2025, Taiping - The Right Honorable Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), officiated the National Level World Rivers Day (WRD) Celebration for the Year 2024 at the Batu Tegoh Riverbank @ Padang Merbok, Taiping. Also present were the Honorable Dato' Seri Mohammad Nizar bin Jamaluddin, Chairman of Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transportation for the State of Perak, representing the Honorable Dato' Seri Saarani bin Mohamad, Menteri Besar of Perak, Deputy Minister of PETRA, Deputy Minister of Education, Secretary General of PETRA, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, State Financial Officer of Perak, and invited guests as well as staff from JPS Malaysia and Perak.
The National Level WRD Celebration for the Year 2025, themed "Rivers and Waterways in Our Community," aims to raise awareness and a sense of responsibility among all parties regarding the importance of caring for, preserving, and sustaining rivers in Malaysia. Also held was the opening ceremony of the newly completed Sungai Batu Tegoh National River Trail (DSK) for community recreation and learning purposes.
The WRD celebration was enlivened by the presence of over 1,000 visitors. Among the highlights of the WRD celebration is the presentation of the Special Water Resources Award to local communities to recognize their efforts in caring for and sustaining rivers.
The National Level WRD Celebration in 2025, implemented in collaboration with the Perak State Government and the Federation, is hoped to raise awareness among all segments of society about the importance of caring for, preserving, and sustaining rivers as the country's water source, and to jointly take responsibility and work together to manage the country's water resources more strategically and systematically.
